Timbered Craftsman Custom Home Design Bursting with Character

ABOUT THE DESIGN

For this project, Tantalus, we worked with the clients on the conceptual design and construction drawings for the building permitting and construction. The goal was to create open spaces on multiple levels encompassed by posts, beams and glazing, adding character and creative spaces wherever possible.

The client made this design unique by really putting a lot of intentional thought into what they wanted to see and how they wanted to live day-to-day. Together, we took our time, had some fun, expanded on their vision and turned it into reality.

ABOUT THE HOME

The gems of the house aren't just the vintage decor or the stunning art work, but hidden in the finishing details and secret compartments. We created our own interpretation of a timber-framed house; paired down simplicity of just the right amount of timbers and white walls is a perfect fit within the lush Northwest backdrop.

This house opens up through the centre, vaulting the entry to the living room with a jaw-dropping 2.5 stories of timbers and glass on either end and a dormered loft in the centre of it all. Cozy kitchen and dining area is cut into the side of the home, outlined in timbers, while a hidden studio and workshop is on the other. You just have to try and find it. If you can’t, access is easily found outside. An intricate staircase playfully takes to you upstairs to multiple areas; the loft, bedrooms, bathrooms and secret compartments. Spacious areas and cozy quarters where they count.
